God is our Father and we are His sons and daughters. The most vital proof that a relationship exists is that the relating parties communicate. When we pray, we not only speak to God; God also speaks back to us. Many Christians do not yet understand how one can hear from God. Yet God speaks to us in diverse ways every moment of the day.

Proverbs 3:1-10

Have you ever found yourself in a situation in which you do not know what next to do and which direction to turn? At such junctions, the one direction you must turn is upwards. Our passage today admonishes, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil” (Proverbs 3:5-7).

In 1897, Johnson Oatman, Jr.published one of the ageless hymns we have inherited, titled “Count Your Blessings.” The refrain of that hymn says:

Count your blessings; name them one by one,

Count your blessings, see what God has done!

Count your blessings; name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

The New Year ushers in new hopes, new expectations, and new zeal to engage and conquer. In this season of the year, people take some time to make sober evaluations of performance in the previous year. They also map out fresh strategies for heights to conquer in the New Year. 

It is only fair that you embrace this New Year with a heart bustling with gratitude and thanksgiving unto God. The challenges you encounter on your journey to destiny should only serve to make you tougher, wiser and more determined to excel. Most often it is in the midst of such challenges that the grace of God is availed to you in unimagined dimensions.
