We experience the "name phenomenon" all the time. When we hear that someone is a graduate of Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton, etc. - we immediately assume that they must be exceptional in their field of expertise (not necessarily true by the way). It is the school that has a “name” and association with that name presents opportunities. And yes, people
will get hired over someone else because of the name of their school or program.
There are married women who still keep their maiden name because they had influential fathers whose names open doors (not the only reason though). That name to them is an asset they don’t want to lose by virtue of marriage. Have you ever needed to gain entrance to somewhere you would ordinarily not have access, but was given access by simply presenting a business card or mentioning who sent you? What's in a name?
A name can speak of power, position, influence and/or authority . . . some more so than others. Some names are more recognizable, more powerful and more respected than others. There are names and there are names, but there is a name that in every respect is greater than any other; at which mention every other name gives way. That name is JESUS and He gave us His business card (His name) and asked that we use it at will. There is no door that it cannot open; there's no one's presence that it cannot guarantee you audience; there is no hierarchy of demonic influence that out-ranks it; there is no name greater than the name of Jesus.
Don't just carry it around, USE IT! However remember that it is not to be used frivolously or in vain. The main purpose of the authority in that name is to do exploits; in order to populate the kingdom of God and glorify His name.
In a nutshell: Everything and everyone has a name. A name defines, locates and positions. A name can give access, secure favour, and open doors of great opportunities. The more powerful and influential a name, the greater the authority it can exert. The name of greatest power and influence is JESUS and we have that name!
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father. [Philippians 2:9-11; NLT]
To do: Recognize the power and authority in the name of Jesus . . . and walk in it!
