And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.

When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

– 1 Samuel 5:1-7

You are born of God and you represent Him here on earth. As a citizen of God’s Kingdom, the territory you occupy on earth is an extension of God’s Heavenly Kingdom. Wherever you go, you must exercise the wisdom of ushering in God’s kingdom into that territory. The way to do this is to raise an altar unto the living God in that territory. An altar is a place where humanity and deity interact. It is a place where sacrifice and worship are rendered to supernatural powers; it is also a place where gifts and interventions flow from the supernatural realm into the physical realm.

Anywhere you find yourself, it is most likely that over the ages past an altar had already been established in the place unto the devil. It is also likely that you will find visible evidence of the wicked operations of the devil and his agents in that territory.

That should not worry you because you have been guided into that place to raise a righteous altar unto the living God. When you do so, what happened to the god of the Philistines in our passage today will happen to any gods or powers that lay claim over that territory. “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth” (Philippians 2:10).

To raise an altar unto God in a place, you must first acknowledge the sins and iniquities that have been done in that land and ask God for mercy and cleansing for the place. You must invoke the blood of Jesus to cleanse the territory and then invite Jesus to come and be the Lord and Sure Foundation of the land. When you enthrone Jesus in a territory, you rule and reign in that land as His representative.

PRAYER: Seek God’s pardon and cleansing for the territory you now occupy. Plead the blood of Jesus over the land.

CONFESSION: The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. I reign on earth as joint heir with Christ.
