And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:
And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.
And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did vex them with all adversity.
Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.
- 2 Chronicles 15:1-8
God does not get involved in casual relationships; He only gets involved in covenant relationships. If you will not be committed to the relationship, God will not be committed either. You are the one that will determine the level of intimacy you will share with God. One thing is certain; God will not commit more than you are willing to commit. The prophet that spoke to King Asa in our passage today said to him in verse 2; “The LORD is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you” James 4:8 admonishes; “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
Do not be among those that keep away from God. It does not matter how far you may think you have wondered away from Him, His heart still yearns earnestly for you. You are the reason why He sacrificed His only begotten Son on the cross. He did so to purchase your pardon and sanctification. He did so to cleanse you from sin and exonerate you from eternal damnation in hell. God loves you so much that even if you were the only one on this earth, He would still have sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die on your behalf and deliver you from the bondage of hell.
Having paid such enormous price to have you, He wants you to enjoy the full benefits of sharing an intimate relationship with Him. David, the psalmist shared such an intimate relationship with God and said, “O LORD, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance.” Embrace God and enjoy your great inheritance in Him. The arms of Jesus are ever wide open to receive you.
• Commit afresh to intimate relationship with God.
Jesus loves me; He died for me. Nothing shall separate me from my inheritance in Him.
